A New World, a new MMO experience
New World is a premium massively multiplayer online action game where players create a new hero in the world of Aeternum. This game sets itself apart by focusing on PVP, specifically a 50v50 multiplayer mode where players fight over various forts, accompanied by siege equipment and objective-focused gameplay.
New World's focus on open PVP might depart from the gameplay most MMO players enjoy or have experienced. If that's the case for you, you might feel more at home with MMOs like Final Fantasy XIV or Elder Scrolls Online.
A new character, a new adventure
New World immediately throws players into detailed character customization. Here you can spend time creating a character that resonates with you. As an MMO, it's no surprise that you'll spend hours upon hours building this character into a hero, so creating one you're happy with is vital.
Unlike MMOs like the FFXIV or Elder Scrolls, this game removes class selection from the character customization screen. Instead, it has you grow your character by interacting with the game world, meaning each player starts with the same blank slate. Creation in this way prevents the common class anxiety associated with making the wrong choice at character selection.
Taking on the New World
Combat and questing can vary significantly in MMO titles, ranging from traditional Hotbar rotations to the action combat of newer titles. New World throws you into the action with timing-based action combat, where you must choose your combos and learn when to block or dodge to avoid damage.
This is simple to pick up but a difficult-to-master system. Controls are simple—most gamers can get to grips with them immediately. You can damage creatures worldwide by weaving light and heavy attacks with the game’s multiple weapons, including new skills as you continue to use them and level up their respective trees.
Becoming the hero you were meant to be
New World doesn't stray from the stereotypes that make MMOs great. No MMO is made complete without a plethora of quests, and players can expect to see multiple quest tropes, from fetch quests to slaying x number of these nasty creatures—nothing new to mention but done well regardless.
The real draw for players will be the expansive world and the options available to take crafting a step further. After being introduced to numerous shopkeepers, you're informed that you can begin preparing your gear if only you have the materials.
You can find various resources worldwide, from tree chopping to rock mining and killing specific creatures to get the resources needed. Once obtained, you can craft much-needed new gear to improve combat prowess and survivability.
New Worlds draw - PVP
New World places great emphasis on its PVP. Aside from five-player co-op expeditions, MMO players won't be wowed by any PVE elements, unlike FFXIV's duty finder dungeons. However, we imagine New Worlds PVP modes will surprise even more competent MMO players.
This game features a 20v20 outpost mode where both teams duel it out to capture three outposts—similar to a domination mode, with more players. The 50v50 mode also places one team in control of a fort, which they must defend against an opposing team armed with siege equipment. These modes will put your game knowledge to the test as you need to account for any possible strategy your opponents will employ against you.
Finally, there is open-world PVP which you're encouraged to participate. This essentially means that if you turn this setting on, you can attack or be attacked by other players with the setting on, creating tense, action-packed moments in the world.
What’s new?
Introducing new methods to commemorate your triumph over the formidable Spriggan Fury, The New World game brings forth an array of different ways to revel in victory. Within this immersive gaming experience, you can ignite stunning firework emotes to illuminate the expansive realm of Aeternum with vibrant bursts of color. A selection of five distinctive fireworks awaits your choice, including the dazzling Flower, bloody red Dynasty, an explosion of emerald — Dryad, purple Ancient, and captivating Shooting Star Fireworks. These fireworks can last up to two hours. Each awe-inspiring firework can be acquired individually for 1,000 Marks of Fortune, or you may opt for a bundle of 10, priced at 10,000 Marks of Fortune.
Alongside an assortment of bug fixes, players of every skill level now have the freedom to venture into Brimstone Sands without succumbing to the scorching sun. However, encountering the treacherous scorpions and sandworms presents an entirely distinct challenge altogether.
New name, thrilling debut season
With its recent rebranding as New World: Aeternum, the game unveils its maiden season—Season of Opportunity. This chapter introduces pivotal changes to target lock mechanics in PvP, refining combat dynamics for a fairer gameplay experience. When a player defeats an opponent in PvP, the target lock doesn't automatically shift to another foe, eliminating unintended retargeting during ongoing abilities. Now, aim and strategy take precedence, aligning the experience closer with classic keyboard-and-mouse precision.
Another pivotal adjustment involves the aggressive breaking of target lock upon losing sight of an enemy. This change empowers players to utilize evasive maneuvers effectively and reinforces stealth tactics. Brief interruptions in line of sight now sever target lock, offering more opportunities to dodge and reposition. This shift brings balance between pursuing and defending players, thus broadening gameplay depth in PvP scenarios.
In addition, target lock now influences character turn speed, slowing it during lock engagement and affecting the target accuracy of moving opponents. The modification curtails homing efficacy, requiring extra precision and forethought in combat. Furthermore, a temporary damage reduction for the Blunderbuss in PvP ensures that its hits are not overly advantageous. This interim solution is closely monitored for long-term improvements.
Improved matchmaking and new combat zone
New World: Aeternum’s revamped matchmaking system innovates the 3v3 Arena dynamics by introducing cross-world capabilities. This allows players to find matches faster and more effectively by expanding the pool of potential contenders. Additionally, skill-based matchmaking elevates the experience by ensuring encounters with players of similar expertise. The addition of role selection mirrors the Expedition format, allowing for strategic balancing of teams, thus making competitive encounters more engaging and less predictable.
In addition to matchmaking enhancements, players can now explore The Cursed Mists, a treacherous new PvP zone in Cutlass Keys' fog-laden southwest area. Here, the “Golden Greed” curse of La Esperanza’s treasure stokes dangerous rivalries among adventurers. With Cursed Doubloons at stake, trust becomes a commodity—potentially leading allies into lethal treachery. Adventurers must gather treasure swiftly and beware of cutthroat competitors eager to snatch their hard-earned items.
Should you venture into this New World?
New World presents a refreshing MMO experience in the captivating realm of Aeternum, focusing on PvP engagements such as epic 50v50 battles and siege warfare. Character customization allows players to create a unique hero, while combat demands tactical timing and strategic decision-making. Moreover, players can now explore Brimstone Sands without succumbing to the sun's rays, although they still need to confront the perilous scorpions and sandworms lurking in the area.
